I have been marketing several products for sometime now, with varying amounts of success, overall I have made a good profit, and as this has been more of a learning exercise for me I am very happy with that. I am however left with some things that I still don’t understand.
I have been using Google Adwords to market three merchants products, I have not used landing pages just direct marketing through Google Adwords PPC and bidding on keywords. Most of my effort has gone into researching keywords, testing different adverts, seeing how the bidding systems work, budgets and similar things like that. In general I have found a winning formula for these three merchants and as I say I am well in profit. I have found a great merchant with good high value items, an average basket size of well over £130 and little competition for bidding on the keywords I have chosen.
The concerning thing, however, is that the success and failure seems to vary drastically, and this is something that i do not understand at the moment. Take the past two days for example, yesterday I made over £100 from one campaign, and paid as little as £2.00 on Clicks, great I though, more of the same today… No. The same adverts, same keywords, similar number of clicks, same everything as far as I can work out but commission of a grand total of £2.96.
At this point this does not really matter that much, the sums are small and I am still in my trial phase, but it does seem to me that this is a little hit and miss, perhaps there is something that I am missing. Perhaps tomorrow it will be £200! Who knows!
Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing? If so I would be happy to exchange thoughts on the matter.
